Belle View

Project 2 Belle Vue

Belle Vue Won in open competition, the scheme incorporates a large cental communal space for the enjoyment not just of the immediate residents but also the wider com¬munity of surrounding estates. The open space divides into an informal lawn edged with planted areas of indigenous species and a children’s adventure play space including facilities for disabled children who make up a small community within the estate. Each house and flat in the crescent receives direct sunlight as the sun moves from east to west. Landscaping includes car courtyards with trees, which shelter and screen the parked cars; pathways connect to the adjoining parkland and the Island cycle track network. Shelter belts of robust planting surround the perimeter of the site and help to isolate the electricity substation and gas governor house.

The project was completed in late 2000 and received “Highly Commended” in the Jersey Design Awards of 2002.
